Would just like to let you all know this will be my last blog post here…. as i have a  lovely new blog!

Many thanks to all my regular readers (if i have any left..), I know i’ve been pretty inactive on the blogging front to focus more on getting regular youtube uploads, but i’m hoping to take up blogging more seriously with a fresh start.

Wishing you all the best for 2011!

as if by magic..

Jagex have managed to beat their own records in the unpredictable sense. It’s now down to a referendum to decide whether the previous days of freedom will return.  With currently 88% of members voting for the change, there isn’t much more to be said!

I’m curious as to what spurred the decision to revisit, as to what could best be described as the underground golden years. Were the riots and hateful insults enough to force Jagex into bringing it back? Or was the decline in pure ‘pkers’ enough to reduce membership revenues.

Either way i’m really excited for a major update, it’s been a while since i’ve had something so juicy to talk about! It will also be interesting to see how pking has changed since the old school methods of whip and dragon dagger are long gone…

In other news.. the Sunday Times has listed Andrew and Paul Gower as the 654th richest entrepreneurs in the United Kingdom, worth £113 million (US $217 million)!

Thinking of making a pure in preparation for the wilderness re-release? Alex, the owner of RuneScape Bits Blog has released an awesome F2P Range Guide for beginners . Check it out!

Heavens Above

Yesterday Jagex released details of their major real life event. This gathering will be the first huge scale event organized by Jagex. I’m really interested in hearing more about the actual venue and any guest appearances.

I’ve also heard that Gertjaars and his online girlfriend have been offered free tickets, but this could be just a rumor.

I would really like to go, but I would feel much more comfortable meeting a friend beforehand. Perhaps organizing to stay in a hotel with a few friends the night before and the night after the event would make traveling much easier.
I’ve also been considering making a public video for anyone who wants to meet up with us before the event. I have a feeling that many people could be put off by turning up to an event like this alone. Having a whole gang of RuneScapers heading down to RuneFest would be pretty epic. If you’re interested in meeting up with us before hand, let me know!

I’ve heard much criticism of the event being more of a NerdFest. It’s easy to assume everyone will be the average gamer steriotype; long hair, glasses and very thin. But then again, many people were surprised at my real life video with Xemondo since I have spent alot of time playing RuneScape.

The "Angry Video Game Nerd" Character

The "Angry Video Game Nerd" Character

This is the Angry Video Game Nerd, a hilarious character portrayed by James from Cinemassacre. Of course, this is only his fictional character.

We should never assume that all gamers behave in this mannor! :P

Pure Gold

I’ve finally re-launched my RuneScape Guide Competition! Several weeks ago, I received an unexpected message from Jagex offering the winner of my competition a whole years worth of membership. I was truly amazed with this offer, but was limited due to coursework.

Thanks to an Easter week off, and parents to help me fire through homework. I had some time to finally create a competition video.

I tried to make it look as professional as possible, and I’m pretty happy with the overall turn out. Let’s just hope it all goes well!

Jagex have also organized a new system for Fansites. A Fansite Support thread was created yesterday explaining the levels of Fansite Support. Websites are sorted into four different groups, the lowest being Bronze and the highest being Platinum.

Fansite owners in the Platinum group are guaranteed invitations to Jagex Headquarters, as well as merchandise and exclusive staff interviews.

It’s awesome to see Jagex being more involved with the community!

Dead End

It’s been two months since I purchased a Mining Skill Cape, but still, I find myself continuously mining in the Living Rock Caverns. The concentrated gold rocks make mining a bearable skill, and somewhat addictive.  Making it to 15 million mining experience was an achievement itself, but being rank 1,000 was screenshot worthy ! :D

The Mining Golds clan chat was growing at an extraordinary rate, which was the main reason for an alternative clan chat ‘mg_84′ to be made. Most of the dedicated miners used this extra ‘calm’ clan chat to mine, with a closer community and better calls without constant disruption. Also congratulations to Wr_Athena for finally reaching 200 million mining experience! :D

Fishing Level 95

Fishing Level 95

I decided to stay close to home, and gather a rare species of fish known as rocktail. Unlike fly fishing at Shilo Village, popular fishing locations are stable for several inventories. Although the fish are slow and difficult to catch, they can sell for over 2,500 each.

It’s nice to gain experience towards another master skill, rather than continuing after 99. However I am looking forward to setting a major goal for the summer :)

There was also a wordpress issue which disabled me from further posting. Thankfully the admin was quick to respond and I’m able to update again! I think the issue was due to spam comments on my very old posts, I thought accepting them all would be a quick solution. Obviously not! :P

Rebirth

It’s almost been two months since my last blog post. I can’t forget all the fun I had making this blog, writing about what i find interesting, and reading other related blogs.

There are times when it feels very pointless with such little readers, but other days it feels very important to me. The truth is I’m finding it hard to write a RuneScape blog while playing very little RuneScape. Only being able to log in once a week or less feels extremely inadequate to maintain a useful blog. Most of the RuneScape updates are also usually implemented on Mondays or Tuesdays, which means i am usually late to review the update coming home on weekends.

I decided along with one of my long-term RuneScape friends to meet up in real life. My friend had a video camera, so we documented some of our time in Aberdeen. I really had a great time, and it’s completely different from the time I’d spend with friends at University. We were totally free and confident to talk about RuneScape and weren’t at all scared to show it.

I’ve embedded the video on this page, we probably come across quite immature. Many people were surprised how different I am when making a serious type of video, or writing a blog like this.  But most people forget that I’m just a normal guy, I love having fun, and RuneScape has been a hobby of mine for a long time.

Making a video like this was a huge risk. I’ve always been very secure about my identity, and for obvious reasons have only shown a select few my real life pictures. Being judged from appearance happens everywhere, and can even affect things like Youtube Videos. Although all my previous videos only had my voice, one video showing my real personality will have lasting effects.

There is also the fact that it’s inevitable to have people who dislike your Internet activities. Having people insult your in-game stats or pass a derogatory remark will not likely have lasting consequences. However being able to attack your appearance is alot more personal. Either way, I’m proud to say I had a great weekend, and would love to do it again.

I never thought I’d make such a real relationship from an online game. I’ve known Xemondo for nearly 3 years, most of which we have talked on Skype. We have alot of common, mostly our immature scene of humor which is why we get on so well! Talking nearly every day through skype with a microphone for multiple hours was enough to know and trust each other. We also met up with another RuneScaper called Box oTricks who lives in Aberdeen.

I also started a website to focus mainly on RuneScape Guides. I did unfortunately have to delete all the website files after some inside issues arisen. I had many questions asking why I felt the need to completely remove the website, hopefully this video will explain why:

I have decided to keep this more of an update, tomorrow’s blog will return the focus to RuneScape Content.

Never Say Never

Late last night i was very eager to to get 99 mining since I’ve been holding my magic at 53xp to 99 for the past week.

I was planning to invite my whole Clan Chat to Rimmington mine for the double 99 party, however i was distracted by website coding and  slipped up on the mining!

Thanks to everyone who also came to watch me get 99 Magic! We also had a fun house party at Jcong21′s hut. I would call it a house, but he can only afford wooden walls, so it’s a hut! :P

Private Chat

More and more i find myself playing with Private Chat turned off. It started after the name changing updates, and half of my ‘friends’ seem to change their name when a new one becomes available. Some of the people on my friends list actually get offended when I have to ask them who they are, and how we met, because I very rudely haven’t made a note of their constant name changing.
Having a list consisting mainly of people you don’t results in the conversation being limited, of what skill you’re currently training.  I can’t remember anything about this person to talk about anything we might have done together. So i tend to avoid these moments by just keeping my chat off.

Especially while mining, I barely ever just watch the screen, and it helps not having to look out for friends PMing me. I can just click on the concentrated gold ore and let my inventory fill up while i watch Youtube Videos, films, or read RuneScape Blogs/Articles.

A great point made by Jek Nexus was to never take your friends on RuneScape too seriously.  They won’t be at your wedding, or your funeral. Which is absolutely true.

Meeting new people

Meeting new people

I love to play this game, and love to meet new people around the world as i travel. Even just listening to people talking in the Living Rock Caverns can be more engaging than finding out what slayer task your friends are currently embarking on.

Especially with Skype opening up new doors. If i can have voice conversations with people while playing, why should i waste my time with small talk?
Let me know what you think. Are you a private chat off person, or do you prefer to keep you private chat on to see what people have to say?

Worthy Exp

The Skillers Union has finally hosted a weekly skill i can take part in! The bad news is I only came second place :(

I only lost by a measly 200k experience. The weekly exp chart is really well made which you can check out here: Farming Week

Not far to go in the mining department :)
