Attention RuneScape Bloggers!
I’m hoping to work on a video to promote RuneScape blogging.
And i would love to get some other bloggers interested.
In the video i’ll be talking about some of the benefits of RuneScape Blogging, and what sort of things people like to write about.
I would also like to take the chance to look at some example blogs.
At the moment i only regularly read two blogs, but i would like to expand and reach out to as many people as possible.
I only currently read the shroud of guthix (by kitt fox) and the runescape reader’s digest (by vaskor)
Please, if you are interested, do the following:
First of all, it would help alot if you could all maybe mention this in your next blog postings, and link this blog post to give other blog readers a chance to post!
And secondly, just leave a comment to this blog post!
Make sure you include your runescape username, and a link to your own blog.
I actually have no idea how many people will post, even if there is only 2 or 3 people intersted, i’ll still be happy!
When posting, it would help a bunch if you could also mention anything worthwhile i could include in the video? Maybe you could give your own opinion on why you started blogging, and what you get out of it. And also some tips to players who also wish to blog for runescape.
Thanks alot everyone
(if anyone is interested my runescape name is icey_dan1, maybe i could record myself talking to a few bloggers in-game? )

I think it is a great idea.
Here are my thoughts (posted in the Runescape Reader’s Digest too):
Why did I start blogging?
There were several reasons as far as I can remember.
* Two years ago I was a writer at RS Haven and was looking for new ways to promote RS Haven’s articles. Ironically, this very blog became the reason I eventually broke up with RS Haven. They refused to exchange links viewing the Reader’s Digest as a competitor and we parted our ways.
* I’d been wanting to try serious “blogging” for quite a while, as I was (and still is) heavily involved into Web 2.0 type technologies in the course of my RL work.
* I wanted to find a way to pay for Runewise hosting without placing any ads on Runewise or asking for donations.
What you get out of it?
* I feel that I provide a useful service to Runescape community. It aligns very well with my idea of contributions people can and should make to communities they are involved into (online or real life – does not matter). I don’t believe in monetary charity, but I do believe in making life of people around me better through voluntary contributions of time and effort.
* I also found the whole Runescape blogging community to be very friendly and interesting.
Tips to players who also wish to blog for runescape?
* Try to write about your Runescape experiences and adventures rather than about your levels.
* Read and comment on other Runescape blogs – it is a sure way to find friends and readers.
* Remember that you are not obligated to write every day, or every week. If you don’t feel like writing, don’t.
* Enjoy writing.

I have phased out gaming mostly, but I still have Vaskor’s blog in my RSS feed. You can check out my blog at rseconomist.com. It is pretty dormant. For a while I was working with the runescape blog (http://www.therunescapeblog.com/2009/03/so-you-want-to-farm/), but haven’t done any guest posting there for a while. I also read Marlaine’s Musings (http://www.runescaperegistry.com/ ). Marlaine is still good enough to keep my blog in her blog roll.
A few things came to mind when you mentioned RS blogging. I started the blog to make money through google ads. Vaskor can attest that there is no money in it. I have yet to see my first check from google, and in all likelihood, never will. I realized that pretty quick, but kept up the domain and the blog for a while. Stopping posting was just the result of not following the in game economy. I do log on occasionally and do a bit of FOG for the free mage xp, but that is about it.
I think I will probably start playing again some day, I would like to be able to wear my quest cape again (originally I got it at lvl 68), and have since only ever trained melee stats for quest requirements.
Feel free to stop by with any questions

Why do I blog? Well, it’s really because I want to be able to look back on it in several years, more than anything. When I returned to Runescape after my year-long break, I had almost nothing to remind me of how I spent that time. My friends had quit and I’d lost my ties with others. I had next to no screenshots and I’d forgotten what being a newbie was like. I decided to start blogging (after seeing Tim’s blog) so that I’d always be able to remember my rise from your average member to something more special.
I found many friends through doing the whole thing and I really feel that I wouldn’t have gotten so far without the motivation and encouragement I received.

I posted this on my site as well. Vaskor, i stole your setup, I hope you don’t mind.
Why did I start blogging?
I was looking up random Runescape information one day when I came across this blog. I had never seen a runescape blog before that didn’t pertain to guides, tips or the dreaded gold farmers. It was personal. They had the same sort of playing style that I did, albeit they’re a F2P mod and I’m a P2P layman. I loved reading about the interpersonal dynamics of playing a MMORPG (Runescape is the only MMORPG I’ve ever played). I fell in love with the fact that behind the stats, skills, quests etc, there are actual people with different political views, religions, cultures, everything, taking part in something. It was all new for me. From there I discovered more and more similar sites, mostly touching on gameplay, but each with a personal feel on it. I guess I just wanted a part of that.
What do I get out of it?
I’ve met a lot of interesting, amazing people that I might not have. It’s nice just to have a record of things I’ve done, noticed, figured out or even just how I felt about certain things. It’s something to look back on. Its interesting how we can change as people and players over time and sometimes we don’t even notice it until we look at something we did, say, a year or so ago.
Tips to players who also wish to blog for runescape?
Write about anything you feel like writing about. What may seem just as an outlet to you, might be insipring or helpful to someone else, regardless of how trivial you think it may be. Much like the game, have fun with it. Don’t make it ‘work.’

I’ll cross post this on my blog and I copied Vaskor’s layout too
Why did I start blogging?
I started blogging for 3 main reasons.
1) To keep track of what I was doing. I use my blog not only as a journal but also as a to do list and milestone tracker. I can look at all the posts tagged “Crafting” for example and see about how long it took me to get each crafting level.
2) I’m in a couple of different clans and RS communities. Having to maintain a goals thread in each one was a pain. So I created the blog and put the link in my sig line.
3) I wanted to write about what I wanted to write about (rants, guides etc) without having to follow someone else’s format.
What you get out of it?
I mostly do it for me. Sometimes I’ll go back and see how I did something. Sometimes I just laugh at my rants. I also can refer people to my posts instead of having to explain it to them.
Tips to players who also wish to blog for runescape?
Have fun.
Play with your layout
Link to other bloggers and they will link to you.
Put your comments on moderate. Why? Because my blog serves as my RS mailbox too. Friends leave me notes, announce 99 parties etc. Best way to track me down w/o having to share personal details.
Talk about how and why. Focuse less on who what where when.

Vaskor started something with his layout.
I also posted this on Shroud of Guthix.
Why did I start blogging?
Mostly to have a record of what I’ve done in RS. The first blog (on Sal’s) was just posting short snippets of any levels I got and what I did that day. After reading a few of the popular blogs, I understood any readers would want screenshots and more info about what I was doing. I was part of Sal’s when he first offered blogs on his site and, tentatively, I stepped into the waters. Recently, I read up on my blog there and had a good laugh about it.
I moved my blog elsewhere because I felt restricted in what language I could use (I like to curse).
What do I get out of blogging about RuneScape?
Aside from a record of my activities, I like to think I’m helping other players with tips and advice about the game. My two favorite posts revolve around woodcutting. The first compares rune and dragon hatchets (remember when they were axes?) and the second is a woodcutting guide.
Any advice for new RS bloggers?
General blogging advice would be to say up front whether you’ll be posting sporadically or on a set schedule. I enjoy publishing a post every day and if I don’t, I try to mention why I didn’t. Also, please don’t use a black background with white text; it may be the cool thing to do, but it’s bloody difficult to read. As for a RS blog, put up screenshots if you can and try writing the post as a story. Merch Gwyar’s blog is a great example.

Getting people involved in blogging is a interesting goal for anyone to have.
As for the reason I choose to start blogging ; I’d say it was because I felt it was about time… After making videos for a few years, I figured I may as well start doing something new. That and Runescape Classic needed some fresh blood to explain things.
Another reason I was late to the blogging scene was because I never got into the foruming scene, I was always more interested in finding things out for myself and if someone happened to ask, I’d let them in on what I knew.
What I get out of my own blogging activities, a different medium in which I can get my ideas out into the world. Some things just do not work in a video, at times the video I was making would get far too drawn-out and it would be much clearer if someone just read the written word of what I was trying to get across.
I guess one can blog about there goals and procession towards them, but my days of that have long sense passed. I might try blogging about past recollections of mine, but memory is often rose colored.
My advise for anyone who is interested in starting to blog is this:
1. DO use spell check and complete sentences as often as possible. – This makes everyone happy and more interested in what you have to say or wish to discuss.
2. DO find a blog “layout” that works for you. – It’s not always best to just use what others have now… As your blog format should be more suited for how you want others to access information on and around your blog.
3. DO write what is interesting to you. – Nothing is worse then reading something the author is not “enthused” about.
* Also do not stick yourself into a theme of only writing on Subject _ , as this limits your creative freedom and that can never ends well.
My Runescape User name is: Cremeans0. (That’s a Zero by the way.)

I started blogging because I could. At Sal’s, you get the right to blog after posting so many times on the forum. I love writing and so this was just an excuse really.
My blog gives me somewhere to record my achievements and to vent when it all goes wrong. It’s also a chronicle of my progress. I can go back two or three years and remember what it was like to not have the levels that I do now. Some things become so clear in hindsight too. Help that I received from a higher level and I was so pleased and honoured. Now I’m here at that same level and seeing it from the other point of view. It makes me smile.
My blog is also good for helping other people pass the same milestones. They can learn from my mistakes, certainly, but it’s also somewhere to direct people. For example, I had someone in game ask me about Recruitment Drive. It’s been years since I did that quest. I was struggling to even remember which quest it was. I did a search in my blog though and read all about it. Then I could advise them in-game. I always try to ensure that I write down all of my armour and equipment too, as I’m not going to remember what I took and packed two years later, when someone is asking me what to take with them. :p
The biggest tip that I could give is that, if you’re writing a Runescape blog, then your readers are coming to read about Runescape. My entire life doesn’t revolve around Merch Gwyar, but this blog might make it look like it does. I only write about Runescape related things here. While writing about gaining levels is good for your own record, it might not be all that interesting to other people. Try to think of something that happened that was interesting or funny or exhilarating en route to that level. A better blog might be, ‘I was in Fally Bank and I overheard this player say to another one…. blah blah blah’, then at the end of your story say, ‘Oh and, by the way, I got ‘x’ level in fishing’. That sort of thing.
Above all though, a blog should be fun for you to write. Otherwise, there’s no point in writing it.

Why I started Blogging:
-I liked Timothy Gold’s blog.
- Bloggers usually unknowingly contribute to the Rs community and I wanted to give back something back even though I still have yet to do so.
Benefits of Blogging:

There have been times of hardship when I felt unhappy missing knowledge about opportunities of getting high yields on investments. I was a dump and downright stupid person.
I have never thought that there weren’t any need in large initial investment.
Nowadays, I feel good, I started take up real income.
It’s all about how to choose a correct companion who uses your money in a right way – that is incorporate it in real deals, parts and divides the income with me.
You can get interested, if there are such firms? I’m obliged to answer the truth, YES, there are. Please get to know about one of them:

Hello everyone!
I would like to burn a theme at here. There is such a nicey, called HYIP, or High Yield Investment Program. It reminds of ponzy-like structure, but in rare cases one may happen to meet a company that really pays up to 2% daily not on invested money, but from real profits.
For several years , I make money with the help of these programs.
I don’t have problems with money now, but there are heights that must be conquered . I get now up to 2G a day , and my first investment was 500 dollars only.
Right now, I managed to catch a guaranteed variant to make a sharp rise . Visit my web site to get additional info.
